Privacy Policy

Account information

When an account exists we store the email address used to sign in and, when supplied, a display name. This is used to identify your account, give you access to what you purchased and contact you about your purchases or support requests.

Purchases and access

We store order records (product, amount, currency, status, timestamps, whether the order was a test order), the access records derived from confirmed payments, and references supplied by the payment provider such as session, payment and refund identifiers.

Card numbers, security codes and bank details are never sent to, seen by, or stored on iWakaru Japan's systems. Payment is processed entirely by the payment provider under their own terms and privacy policy.

Support requests

Support tickets store the name, email address, subject and message you send, the page you wrote from, the status and history of the request, internal notes, and — for duplicate-billing claims — a note of the evidence you provided and where it is held. Please never send card numbers, security codes or passwords through support.

Your saved travel data

Favourites, trips, trip days and trip items are stored against your account so they are there when you come back, and are visible only to you and to the site owner. Requests made through the free itinerary form store the details you enter so the itinerary can be produced and sent.

AI planner

What you enter into the planner is sent to the AI service used to generate your plan and is used to build your itinerary. A generated plan is stored against your account when you save it.

Partner link clicks

When you open a travel-provider link from iWakaru Japan, we record the click: which offer and page it came from, a click reference, a session reference, a campaign or source label if present, the time, and your account when you are signed in. This is used to understand which recommendations are useful and to attribute any commission correctly. It is never shown to other customers.

Product analytics

We record in-product events such as page and content views, searches, favourites, trip changes, planner use and link clicks, with the account when signed in. This is used only to understand how the product is used and improve it.

Email list

If you subscribe, your email address and language are stored so we can send iWakaru Japan updates. Every email includes an unsubscribe link and unsubscribing removes you from the list.

Browser storage and cookies

The site stores your sign-in session and your language choice in your browser, and keeps content offline on your device when you choose to download it. These are needed for the site to work; they are not advertising cookies and are not sold or shared for advertising.

Operational and security logs

Server and error logs are kept so faults can be diagnosed and the service kept secure, and records of payment events, refunds and support notifications are kept as an audit history.

Who can see your information

Your own records are readable only by you and by the site owner. Information is shared only with the service providers needed to run the site — the payment provider, hosting and database, the email delivery service and the AI service — each for the purpose described above. Your information is not sold.

Your choices

You can unsubscribe from emails at any time, and you can ask support for a copy or deletion of your information. Some records, such as payment and refund history, are kept as long as required for accounting and audit purposes.
